Broadway Bomb 2012!

I always wanted to do the Broadway Bomb since i heard about it back in 2009. I finally had my chance to go on Oct 20, 2012. The funny thing is the week before Broadway Bomb i kept having the urge to go. I said to myself that if i am off on October 20th that maybe i will go. When my work schedule got posted and i saw that i was off on that day even though i had work before and after the 20th. I went and took the chance. I called up a friend that works at an airline and she hooked me up with a round trip tickets to New York for a good price. I booked the tickets the day before the Bomb too. I got to New York at 9:30am, so that gave me at least 18 hours for me to be in New York till i had to head back to Florida. Then I took the bus to the city and got there at 10:30am. I skated around Central park for an hour. Then i realize it was time to go to Broadway because it was almost race time. When i got to Broadway i met up with an old time friend Liza.

We both head to the race and we also noticed a lot of New York Police officers. The police have been keeping an eye on the event website cause this year their were about 2,000 skaters joining the race and the city wasn't allowing such a race to happen on the city. So Liza and i started at Riverside to avoid the cops. Then when i felt i was away from the cops i head over to Broadway. Liza didn't want to take the chance so i went alone. There were electrical signs saying subject to arrest if you skate on Broadway. That is when i started to notice more skaters coming out of no where to join. At this point i was beyond stoked to be part of this event. We all didn't care about the cops we were all setting an example that you can't take away our freedom to skate. I skated for a long time. I want to say i skated for a good two hours till i got to the BBQ gathering.

When i got there the park was filled with longboarders. There were skating contests going on and a cook out too. It was a good time saw a lot of people i knew and i had fun skating. After chillen for some time. I saw Liza and we headed to her place to get myself some rest. Later that night we went to a skating party and skated some more.

After the party i went to Time Square on a mission to have myself a slice of New York pizza before i
head to the airport. Let just say my mission was complete.

I was happy that i took the chance to go to Broadway Bomb. I had a blast and the trip was worth it. I would say i can't wait to go new year, but there is another event i really want to join next year and that is Soldiers of Downhill in Ohio. Both of these races are usually on the same day unless they change that next year. We shall see.

Here is a video i made of my trip, Enjoy!

Hosted my first DH race and Slide Jam in Highlands County

Hosted my first Longboarding race in Highlands County. The event started at 10am and I woke up at 8:45am.
I woke up pretty late and had to rush out to the event location. On my way out to the location, I realized I had left the waivers at home. Rushed back to my place, grabbed the waivers and headed back out. Met up with my sponsor Blake from Califlorida and had him follow me out to the race location. Lucky, when I got there nobody had arrived yet. People started to show five minutes later. While people started showing up, I noticed the weather wasn't looking too good and was rushing to get people signed up for the event. After everyone was signed in, I waited around a few minutes to see if anyone else was going to show and that's when it started pouring down rain and when I realized I had to get this going right away. It rained hard for a solid 3 minutes then it stopped all of a sudden. I headed over to the starting line with the skaters and started setting up the brackets. It was a heat of 3 skaters and a total of 18 racers. I had my buddy Cody take charge of the starting line while I was spotting the small intersection. I also had two other spotters at the turns and my buddy Barney at the Finish Line. The first two skaters that reached the finish line would advance to the next round. After the the first round we had unpleasant company. BACON! The cop told me I had to shut down the event, but he was friendly. Apparently, the church I spoke with about having the skaters park in their parking lot were the people that called the cops about the event. Talk about being a two faced! After they said it was cool for us to park there for the race. I told the cop we would be out in ten minutes and he left, so I rushed to get the race finished before the cops came back. The weather got really bad by the time the final heat was up and that final heat was as intense like the weather. It poured hard, but lucky the weather was on our side by the time the skaters got down the hill and we walked back to the parking lot once the race finished. After announcing the winners of the DH race and giving away some swag, we got the slide jam under way and after the Slide Jam, we announced the winners of the Longest Slide, Best trick, and Highlands County skaters best trick. I wanted the locals to have a chance at winning something in the Slide Jam, so I made a separate division for them. Here are the results!

Guajataca Downhill 2012

Puerto Rico is my all time get away. Especially when i go down in January. While Florida in that time of the year is cold and Puerto Rico weather is nice and warm. Guajataca is the place to be if you love to DH and want a skate vacation. Not only is there a DH competition, but there a slide, and slalom competition as well. That same weekend there is also a music festival to check out. I honestly cant wait to go back next year. Check out the pictures below and the video made by others.

Miami Death Race 2012

Thanks to Will Royce from Bustin I got to hitch a ride in his RV to Miami for the Miami Death Race.
The race was in downtown Miami, FL. and was put together by Ben Arcia AKA Raul Casanova.
The race was held in a closed parking car garage at 2 in the morning. About 60 people showed up from
around Florida and some even from the HGR Crew in Texas. Everyone was able to ride as much as they wanted and last rider down the garage was eliminated by heat. It was a long night but fun race. Winners of the Miami Death Race were:

1. Brian Cortright (HGR)
2. Zac Sharpe (HGR)
3. Andre Bruni (MLC)
4. Jorge Garcia (MLC)
5. William Royce (Bustin)

Congratulations to the winners!

To Miami in the RV filled with blood thirsty Skaters
